Braselton Mayor and Council
The Braselton Town Council meets in voting session on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Braselton Police & Municipal Court Building.

They discuss the items on which they will vote in a Work Session the Thursday before the second Monday at 4 p.m. in the Braselton Police & Municipal Court Building.

Mayor Kurt WardMayor Kurt Ward
TERM: January 2022 - December 2025

A native of DeKalb County, Kurt Ward graduated from Lithonia High in 1990, Baylor University in 1994, and Georgia State University, College of Law in 2001.  He practices law in the areas of: Estate Planning (Wills, Trusts, Probate); General Counsel for small-to-medium size businesses; and Litigation on disability and injury matters.  Kurt and Tamara, along with their two boys, are active in outdoor activities, community service, and Gwinnett Church.






District 1 :Councilmember Becky Richardson
Becky Richardson
TERM: January 2020 - December 2023

Becky Richardson first took office in January 2016. Since finishing school, she has been employed with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where she has managed medical billing for over thirty years. Becky and her husband, Ralph, are well established lifelong residents of Braselton. She enjoys serving on the Town Council and one of her many goals is to serve her community by strengthening the links between town residents and the government that serves them.





Councilmember Richard HarperDistrict 2 :
Richard Harper
TERM: January 2022 - December 2025

Richard Harper invested 25 years in the Georgia State Patrol, rising from Cadet to Sergeant First Class.  His final GSP positions allowed him, in 2006, to purchase a home in Braselton.  His wife of 21 years, their six children, and he love living in Braselton.  Since retirement from GSP in 2018, he has been working in real estate.




Councilmember Jim JoedeckeDistrict 3 :
James C. (Jim) Joedecke, Jr.
TERM: January 2020 - December 2023

Jim Joedecke, a native of New York, is a graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia School of Law.  He is a partner at the law firm of Andersen, Tate & Carr of Duluth where he has practiced since 1998.  He is a member and past president of the Braselton Rotary Club, past member of the town’s Ethics Commission, a board member of the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia, a board member of the Winder YMCA, and a longtime coach of the South Gwinnett High Mock Trial team.  Jim and Stephanie have lived in Braselton since 2007 and have three children.


 Councilmember James MurphyDistrict 4 :
James Murphy
TERM: January 2022- December 2025

A Gwinnett native, James Murphy has lived in Braselton for 13 years.  He has a beautiful wife, Liz, and three amazing children Lola-Cate, Tenley and Miller.  He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1999 and started a twenty-two year career at Standard Pump, Inc.  James is now an owner and President of Standard Pump, Inc. where he has the privilege of working with his brother who is also his business partner. James’s career at Standard Pump has afforded him the opportunity to build teams, resolve problems and create a global network of customers in fifty-one countries. In their spare time you can find his family at Cherokee Bluff sporting events, Cheer and Baseball at Hebron Christian Academy or on the tennis courts!
