Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the current outdoor water use restrictions?

Water Ban Changes

Under a March 3, 2009 order issued by the Director of the Environmental Protection Division (EPF), outdoor watering using drip irrigation and soaker hoses will be allowed in the 55 county area currently under drought response Level IV outdoor watering restrictions. Visit www.conservewatergeorgia.net for more details.

Effective April 1, 2008
For full information on the Statewide Water Ban, please go to http://www.georgiaepd.com/ or call the Braselton Utility Department at 706-654-3915.

Pools
Effective April 1st, the filling of pools is allowed.

Watering of Existing Landscaping
Effective April 1st, each household, business or other property owner is allowed to hand water existing landscaping using one garden hose, 25 minutes per day, from Midnight to 10 am on designated days. The hose must be hand held by a person the entire time you are watering and have a spray nozzle attached that turns the water off when the hose is not held. You may not lay the hose in the yard or in the garden in order to water. Odd numbered addresses may hand water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Even numbered addresses may hand water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. You may not use the 25 minutes or the hose to wash a car, your house or for any purpose other than watering existing landscaping.

Newly Installed Landscaping
Any person who wishes to take advantage of the following must first register with the Outdoor Water Use Registration Program at http://www.urbanagcouncil.com/ Newly installed landscaping which has been in place less than 30 days may be watered up to three days a week within the hours of Midnight – to 10 am only for 10 consecutive weeks and during plant installation. Odd numbered addresses may water newly installed landscaping Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Even numbered addresses may water newly installed landscaping Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Please Note: There is still no outside watering on Fridays or from 10 am to Midnight for any reason!

Why do I have to pay for water when a pipe bursts at my residence?
It is Town of Braselton’s responsibility to provide water to all our customers at the water meter location. We are not responsible for the type or condition of plumbing from the water meter location into private or commercial dwellings.

When do I get my deposit back?
Does it accrue interest while you have it? Each customer, whether residential or commercial, is required to post a surety deposit on each account at the time of initial service. We do not pay interest on deposits held. The deposit is applied to the final bill on the customer’s account. Any surplus is remitted to the customer at that time.

Does the Water System accept “Letters of Credit” from other utilities?
No. Letters of credit from other utilities are subjective documents and are not regulated, nor is there a standard to which they are compared. We believe requiring a cash deposit on water bill accounts reduces losses thereby assuring the lowest rates for all of our customers.

Why are the sewer charges higher than the water charges?
This is primarily due to the cost of building, maintaining, and operating both the sewage collection system and treatment plants capable of removing contaminants in wastewater prior to returning it to lakes and rivers. Our treatment processes meet or exceed all state and federal standards.

I have “blue-poly” pipe from the meter to the house and I had a leak. Where can I find information regarding getting reimbursed for my plumbing cost?
Information can be received by calling 1(800) 356-3496. Eligibility for home assistance varies.

Why are street light charges on my water bill?
Utilizing the Town of Braselton Water System’s existing billing system proved be cost effective; whereas, creating a separate street light billing system would have significantly added costs. The street light funds go to the county’s general fund to pay for utility costs and other maintenance associated with providing this service. For street light repairs/outages, please contact your power company.

If I fill up my pool, do I pay sewer fees for the water used?
Please come by the Utility Billing Office at Town Hall to complete a Request for Adjustment form to be considered for an adjustment.

Thank you for your community support and cooperation as we promote continual wise and conservative water use.

Do I have to notify other utilities that there will be excavation on my property?
Yes. Before proceeding with your excavation, remember to "Call Before You Dig"! The phone number is (800) 282-7411, or (770) 623-4344 in the Atlanta area. You may also log onto the Georgia Utilities Protection Center website at www.gaupc.com for more information.

Water Allocation and Resources

Statewide Outdoor Water Use Schedule

The Board of Natural Resources has adopted Rules for Outdoor Water Use, Chapter 391-3-30. Under the new rules, Georgians will be required to follow schedules for outdoor water use during both non-drought periods and during periods of declared drought. The rules are consistent with Section 4 (Drought Responses) of the Georgia Drought Management Plan, which the Board adopted in 2003.

The rules apply to any entity, and its customers, permitted by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) for water withdrawal or for the operation of a public drinking water supply system.

Current conditions warrant the non-drought schedule for outdoor water use statewide, but should conditions worsen, EPD will require that you immediately take action to manage outdoor water use appropriate to the level of declared drought in your area.

The non-drought schedule is as follows:

Odd-numbered addresses may water only on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Sundays (no hourly limits)
Even-numbered & unnumbered addresses may water only on Mondays, Wednesdays & Saturdays
